Print Job Corruption Printing on Fast Hardware Across Slow LinkLast reviewed: December 1, 1997Article ID: Q174510 |
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 4.0 - Microsoft Windows NT Server version 4.0
SYMPTOMSWhen "Start printing immediately" is selected on the Scheduling tab of Printer properties, print jobs may be corrupted if the client connection speed is slower when compared to the printing hardware.
CAUSEPrint job data is sent to the print device faster than the client can queue data to the print spooler.
MORE INFORMATIONWhen the .spl file is examined, the file size is the same as the source file; however, a portion of the *.spl file is "padded" with 0x00 instead of only data received from the client. This may be caused by a flow control problem on the "slow link" from the client.
RESOLUTIONObtain the following fix or wait for the next Windows NT service pack. This fix should have the following timestamp:
06/05/97 06:09p 259,856 Localspl.dll (Alpha) 06/05/97 06:09p 144,144 Localspl.dll (Intel) STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix. Contact Microsoft Technical Support for more information.
