RAS Authentication Rechallenge Resets Compression FlagLast reviewed: November 19, 1997Article ID: Q176502 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you are connected to a Remote Access Service (RAS) server with either a Windows NT RAS Client or a Windows NT Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS) Client that is using software compression, the compression flag may get reset. This will cause the RAS server to discard any packets from your RAS or RRAS Client.
CAUSEThe RAS server rechallenged the client's authentication by issuing an LCPConfigRequest after the connection has been established. During this reauthentication, the compression flag is reset so that the server thinks the client is not using compression; however, the client is still sending compressed data.
RESOLUTIONObtain the following fix or wait for the next Windows NT service pack. This fix should have the following timestamp:
10/23/97 07:55 PM 27,408 Raschap.dll (Intel) 10/23/97 07:52 PM 45,328 Raschap.dll (Alpha)NOTE: Service Pack 3 must be applied to Windows NT 4.0 prior to applying this fix.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix.
