Word for Windows: Cannot Import CorelDRAW! 4.0 EPS FilesLast reviewed: July 30, 1997Article ID: Q102217 |
The information in this article applies to:
SUMMARYWord for Windows cannot import an encapsulated PostScript (EPS) graphic that contains a TIFF preview image created in CorelDRAW! version 4.0. This restriction occurs because CorelDRAW! version 4.0 incorrectly creates the EPS header when it exports EPS files that contain TIFF preview images. The Word EPS filter cannot read this header, so it cannot import the graphic. Corel Systems, Inc. has corrected this problem. For information about this solution, contact the CorelDRAW! Technical Support Hotline at the following numbers:

STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c, and Word for Windows NT version 6.0. This problem was corrected in Word version 7.0 for Windows 95.
MORE INFORMATIONThe first 30 bytes (0-29) of an EPS file that contains a TIFF preview image are a binary header that contains the offset settings for the PostScript and preview data. CorelDraw! version 4.0 writes an incorrect checksum value in bytes 28 and 29 when it exports an EPS graphic with a TIFF preview image. When the Word EPS filter reads the incorrect value in bytes 28 and 29, it fails. According to the Adobe "PostScript Language Reference Manual," bytes 28 and 29 should contain the following information:
28-29 Checksum of header (XOR of bytes 0-27). If Checksum is FFFF then ignore it.If you change the checksum value in bytes 28 and 29 to FFFF in your CorelDRAW! version 4.0 EPS file, the Word EPS filter imports the file correctly. The CorelDRAW! products included here are manufactured by Corel Systems, Inc.; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding these products' performance or reliability.
