Setup Requires Restart of Windows with ODBC Drivers

Last reviewed: February 6, 1998
Article ID: Q104768
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0

SYMPTOMS

If you install the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) drivers during Word for Windows Setup, you cannot successfully complete Setup unless you restart Windows.

CAUSE

You must restart Windows to initialize the ODBC drivers.

MORE INFORMATION

The Word Setup program installs the ODBC drivers in the <Windows>\SYSTEM subdirectory (where <Windows> is the name of your Windows directory) if you select the Complete installation option. Setup does not install ODBC drivers when you select the Typical or Laptop/Minimum installation option, so you do not need to restart Windows when you use these options.
