WD: Fonts Not Displaying With True WYSIWYGLast reviewed: February 2, 1998Article ID: Q106241 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSMicrosoft Word cannot display all aspects of true WYSIWYG ("what you see is what you get") all the time because the screen resolution is much lower than the printer resolution. Words may appear compressed in certain views due to the difference in resolution. NOTE: This is a display problem only. The text is printed correctly.
CAUSE
Word 6.x and LaterWord makes sure that positions of words on the page and line lengths are exactly preserved. In addition, Word does smooth letter spacing to make the display much nicer than if it strictly positioned every character according to its exact position on the printer.
Word 2.xWord 2.x for Windows spaces the text nicely, but line breaks and word position are not accurately represented on the screen. In certain views, text appears to flow outside of the right margin. This occurs because Word 2.x prioritizes the character spacing over word position and line length.
