Last reviewed: February 2, 1998
Article ID: Q106405
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0, 7.0a
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word, the Send command on the File menu attaches the current document as a Word document in a mail message even if the file is saved in a non-Word format. This problem occurs when you have the Mail As Attachment option selected in the General options dialog box. (To locate the Mail As Attachment option, choose Options from the Tools menu, and select the General tab.)

WORKAROUND

To mail a file in a format other than Word, save the file in that format from Word and then attach the file to a mail message from within your mail program.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Word listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
