Demo Screen Stays Minimized When Selecting Outside

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

In Word 6.0 for Windows, the Help demo window stays minimized when you click outside of the demo window or when you use the task list to switch to a Word document and choose Examples And Demos from the Help menu. This does not occur if you minimize Word for Windows, as the demo screen will not minimize.

CAUSE

When you choose Examples And Demos a second time from the Help menu to bring the demo window to the foreground, the demo window stays minimized instead of returning you to the demo screen. There are four applications running when the demo screen is selected: 1) Word for Windows 6.0, 2) Word Help, 3) Word Examples and Demos, and 4) Windows CBT (computer-based training).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word 6.0 for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

RESOLUTION

To bring the demo window in the foreground, press CTRL+ESC to activate the Task List. Select "Microsoft CBT" and choose Switch To.

NOTE: ALT+TAB is disabled when you are in CBT.
