WD: All Revisions/Changes Not Merged After Merging Documents

Last reviewed: February 2, 1998
Article ID: Q110168
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.1a
  • Microsoft Word 97 for Windows
  • Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you merge revisions or changes between between two documents in Microsoft Word, an added table in the document being merged causes all revisions following the table not to be merged with the original document. When this problem occurs, you receive one of the following messages.

Word 6.x, 7.x

The merged documents contain unmarked revisions.
Do you want to merge up to the first unmarked revision?

Word 97, 98

The merged documents contain unmarked changes.
Do you want to merge up to the first untracked change?

If you choose OK, Word merges the changes up to the table in the original document but does not merge anything after the table. If you choose Cancel, Word cancels the merge and leaves the two documents in their original state.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
