Error: Word Cannot Find or Run This Application (MSINFO)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to obtain system information using the Word 6.0 for Windows Help menu, you may receive the following error message:

   Word Cannot Find or Run this Application (MSINFO)

NOTE: To get system information, choose About from the Help menu and then choose System Info.

CAUSE

You receive the error message noted above when the [Microsoft System Info] section is missing from the WIN.INI file.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, use Windows Notepad to edit the WIN.INI file and correct the [Microsoft System Info] section; this section should have an MSINFO= entry that points to your MSINFO.EXE file. For example:

   [Microsoft System Info]
   MSINFO=C:\WINDOWS\MSAPPS\MSINFO\MSINFO.EXE
