GP Fault or Garbled Graphic with S3 Video Driver

SYMPTOMS

A general protection (GP) fault may occur in S3FLAT.DRV while you edit a Word for Windows document or, embedded graphics may print garbled, if you are using the Dell S3 video driver version 2.1 at the 800 x 600 x 256 (Small Fonts) resolution.

CAUSE

The GP fault occurs if you select framed text in your document, regardless of the font or size of the text.

WORKAROUND

To work around these problems, use the standard VGA video driver supplied with Windows.
