Drag-and-Drop Editing Not Functional with Pen Windows

Last reviewed: February 5, 1998
Article ID: Q110398
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b 2.0c
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a
  • Microsoft Word 97 for Windows
  • Microsoft Windows for Pen Computing version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

When you run Word with Windows for Pen Computing, drag-and-drop editing will not function. This also affects the Examples and Demos found on the Help menu: any demo that uses drag-and-drop editing can't display this process. Other portions of the demo are not affected, and you should be able to continue through the lesson.

CAUSE

The motions associated with drag-and-drop editing are not significantly different from current Pen Windows gestures. Therefore, there is currently no method for distinguishing between the two; only Pen Windows gestures are recognized and interpreted.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Word listed above.
