SYMPTOMSWhen Word for Windows attempts to open a Paradox version 3.5 database file using the open database connectivity (ODBC) driver, a "File access denied" error may occur.
CAUSEThe "File access denied" error occurs if the Paradox 3.5 file is password-protected. Word 6.0 does not prompt you for the password, so you cannot open the file. NOTE: This is different from the problem you experience if errors occur when you try to open a database created in Paradox versions earlier or later than 3.5. For information on that issue, query on the following words in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
paradox and word6 and 3.5 and password and prompt and odbc and dde STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows. This problem was corrected in versions 6.0a and later of Word for Windows. In Word 6.0a and later, the Paradox 3.5 ODBC driver prompts you for the password, so you can open password-protected Paradox 3.5 files. NOTE: Word 6.0a does NOT fix problems you may have opening a database created in Paradox versions earlier or later than 3.5.
