WD: Macro Recorder Does Not Record Certain Word Commands

SYMPTOMS

When you run a macro you recorded using the Microsoft Word macro recorder, nothing happens or you may receive the following WordBasic error:

   WordBasic Err=509
   This command is not available.

CAUSE

These symptoms occur when you try to record the commands listed below because Word cannot record these WordBasic commands:

   FormatAutoFormat

   FileFindFile

   MailMergeHelper

WORKAROUND

Record the execution of these commands from the Tools Macro dialog box. This records the ToolsMacro command with the unrecordable command as the .Run argument.

For example, to record the AutoFormat command, record the following macro:

   Sub Main
      ToolsMacro .Name="FormatAutoFormat", .Run
   End Sub

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Word versions listed at the begininng of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
