"General Mail Failure" Adding Routing Slip or Sending Mail

SYMPTOMS

In Word for Windows, when you choose the Send or Add Routing Slip command from the File menu, a "General Mail Failure" may occur. When this happens, you cannot use Word to send your document via electronic mail.

CAUSE

The General Mail Failure occurs if there is more than one copy of MAPI.DLL on your computer. There should be only one MAPI.DLL file, located in the <WINDOWS>\SYSTEM subdirectory.

The MAPI.DLL is damaged or corrupted.

RESOLUTION

Remove all copies of MAPI.DLL except the one in your <WINDOWS>\SYSTEM subdirectory.

Reinstall the MAPI.DLL.
