The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, 2.0c, 6.0, 6.0a

SYMPTOMS

If you assign a sound to the Exclamation or Question event in Windows Control Panel, Word for Windows does not play these sounds. (To locate these events, choose the Sound icon in the Control Panel window.)

This functionality differs from other Microsoft applications, such as Microsoft Excel, in which the Exclamation and Question sounds play as expected.

CAUSE

Word uses different criteria to activate the Exclamation or Question events. This criteria is hard-coded into the program, so you cannot change it.
