The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a

SYMPTOMS

If you create a document and then move the document or its template to another location, Word for Windows does not update the location of the template in the Document Statistics dialog box. If you choose Summary Info from the File menu and then choose the Statistics button, Word still lists the previous location of the template file.

By contrast, Word correctly updates the location in the File Templates dialog box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word versions 6.0 and 6.0a for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND

To update the Template location in the Document Statistics dialog box, attach a different template to your document, save the document, reattach the original template (from the new location), and then save the document again. (To attach a template, choose Templates from the File menu, choose the Attach button, select the template, and then choose OK.

MORE INFORMATION

When you move a document and template to a different location, Word automatically detects and records the new location of the template, even though Word fails to update the Template reference in the Document Statistics dialog box.
