WD: FormatBordersAndShading Won't Change Shading of Mixed Text

Last reviewed: February 3, 1998
Article ID: Q116051
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
  • Microsoft Word for Windows NT, version 6.0
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a
  • Word for the Macintosh, versions 6.0, 6.0.1

SYMPTOMS

The WordBasic FormatBordersAndShading command sometimes does not correctly change the shading of selected paragraphs. It works correctly if all selected text contains the same shading format. However, if the selected text contains more than one shading format, the macro command does not change the shading of the paragraphs.

WORKAROUND

Use the ShadingPattern command instead of FormatBordersAndShading to shade all selected paragraphs regardless of prior shading formats. For example, to shade the selected paragraph(s) 30%:

   Sub MAIN
      ShadingPattern 6
   End Sub

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Word listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Word 97 for Windows and Word 98 Macintosh Edition.
