The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a

SYMPTOMS

When you move the Borders toolbar to the right or left side of the document window, exit Word for Windows, and then restart Word, the seven Border buttons appear to be active, but when you click one of them, no border formatting results. Only the Line Style and Shading buttons respond correctly (when you click one of them, the Paragraph Borders And Shading dialog boxes appear.)

STATUS

We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUNDS

Method 1: Use the Line Style and Shading buttons to access the Paragraph

Borders And Shading dialog box and make formatting changes there.

Method 2: Move the Borders toolbar into the document window or place the
toolbar above or below the document window.
