The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a

SYMPTOMS

The PATH statement in the [MS Shareres] section of your WIN.INI file contains more than one path to the Word for Windows directory.

CAUSE

When you uninstall and reinstall Word for Windows, Setup appends the Word program directory path to the PATH statement in the [MS Shareres] section of the WIN.INI file. It does not delete the old entry first.

STATUS

We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

This does not present any problems with normal Windows or Word operation.

RESOLUTION

Edit the WIN.INI file and manually remove the extra path statement(s).
