WD: OPTION+TAB Does Not Insert Tab in "Labels and Envelopes"

Last reviewed: February 5, 1998
Article ID: Q118454
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 6.0, 6.0.1
  • Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Word for the Macintosh does not insert a tab character in either of the following dialog boxes when you press OPTION+TAB:

  • The Create Label dialog box when you use the Mail Merge command to create mailing labels.

        -or-

  • The Tools Envelopes And Labels dialog box, under either the Envelopes or Labels tab.

In contrast, Word inserts a tab character as expected when you press OPTION+TAB in a table.

NOTE: In Word 6.0 and 6.0.1 for Windows, you can insert a tab in both the Create Label dialog box and under the Labels tab in the Envelopes And Labels dialog box by pressing CTRL+TAB. However, if you press CTRL+TAB under the Envelopes tab of the Envelopes and Labels dialog box, Word switches to the Labels tab instead.

WORKAROUND

If you want to insert a tab character in your labels or envelopes, add the tab directly in your Word document, after you close the Create Label or Envelopes And Labels dialog boxes.

To insert space in these dialog boxes, press the SPACEBAR instead.

STATUS
