The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c

SYMPTOMS

When you select a framed, bordered table in print preview or page layout view, the table may display with a broken or dashed vertical border on the left and/or right side.

Thinner (3/4 pt to 1-1/2 pt) borders around the table will more likely have a dashed vertical border when zooming to 55 percent or less. With thicker borders, the borders may display correctly until the zoom level reaches about 40 percent. Although the border displays incorrectly in print preview or page layout view at the lower zoom levels, the table prints correctly.

CAUSE

When a frame is selected, it is identified with vertical slashes. Depending on the zoom view, the slashes may appear to interrupt the border, causing the border to appear dashed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Word listed above. This problem was corrected in Word version 7.0 for Windows 95.

WORKAROUND

Increase the zoom level until the table displays without the dashed border.
