WD6X: Calculate Command Does Not Appear on the Tools Menu

Last reviewed: February 3, 1998
Article ID: Q120093
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.1a

SYMPTOMS

The Calculate command does not appear on the Tools menu in Word 6.0 as it does in Word 2.x for Windows and Word 5.1 for the Macintosh.

CAUSE

This change in the menu structure is by design in Word 6.0. To perform a calculation in Word 6.0, use the Formula command on the Table menu or run the ToolsCalculate macro from the Tools Macro dialog box.

WORKAROUND

Use the following procedure to add the Calculate command to your Tools menu in Word 6.0:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize.

  2. Select the Menus tab.

  3. In the Category list, select All Commands.

  4. In the Commands list, select ToolsCalculate.

  5. From the Change What Menu list, select &Tools.

  6. Select a location for the command from the Position on Menu list.

  7. Click Add (it is sometimes called the Add Below button).

  8. Click Close.

When you open the Tools menu, it now contains the Calculate command, which functions in the same manner as it did in Word 2.x for Windows and Word 5.1 for the Macintosh. For information about this command, follow these steps:

  1. From the Help menu, choose Contents.

  2. Select the Programming With Microsoft Word topic.

  3. In the Programming With Microsoft Word window, choose the Statements And Functions Index topic.

  4. Choose the T button, and then select the "ToolsCalculate, ToolsCalculate()" topic.

NOTE: If you choose the Help button on the Standard toolbar and then choose Calculate from the Tools menu, Word does not display the ToolsCalculate Help topic; instead Word displays the "Formula Command (Table menu)" topic.
