SYMPTOMS

When you insert one of the following fields into a Microsoft Word document, the insertion point is incorrectly positioned to the left of the field:

   =
   ASK
   AUTOTEXT
   COMPARE
   DATABASE
   IF
   INCLUDETEXT
   INDEX
   INFO
   LINK
   MERGEFIELD
   NOTEREF
   PAGEREF
   REF
   SEQ
   SET
   STYLEREF
   TOA

MORE INFORMATION

In Word 7.x, the Index field does leave the Insertion Point correctly positioned to the right of the field.

WORKAROUND

Move the insertion point to the right of the field using either the mouse or the arrow keys.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Word listed above. This problem has been corrected in Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition.
