WD: WordBasic FilePrint Command Does Not Update Entire TOCLast reviewed: February 3, 1998Article ID: Q121103 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWith the Update Fields printing option selected, when you use the FilePrint WordBasic command to print a document that contains a table of contents created with the TOC field, Word updates only the page numbers in the table of contents, not the entire table. If you added table of contents entries since the last time you updated the TOC field, Word updates the page numbers in the table of contents but does not add the new entries. (To select the Update Fields option, choose Options from the Tools menu, select the Print tab, and then select the Update Fields option so an X appears in the box next to it.) For example, the following macro does not update the entire table of contents, nor does it display the Update Table Of Contents dialog box:
Sub Main FilePrint End SubBy contrast, when you print by choosing the Print button on the Standard toolbar or by choosing Print from the File menu, Word displays the Update Table Of Contents dialog box from which you can select an update option. Word then updates the table accordingly before printing.
WORKAROUNDAdd the InsertTableOfContents WordBasic command to your macro before the FilePrint command, as shown in the following sample macro:
Sub Main InsertTableOfContents .Replace = 1 FilePrint End SubWhen you run this macro, Word updates the entire table of contents before printing.
