Character Spacing from User Info Not Set in Envelope Dialog

Last reviewed: February 5, 1998
Article ID: Q121106
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0

SYMPTOMS

The Return Address box on the Envelopes tab does not pick up character spacing added before address lines in the Mailing Address box on the User Info tab. By contrast, Word does recognize line spacing added to the Mailing Address box. (To locate the Envelopes tab, choose Envelopes And Labels from the Tools menu. To locate the User Info tab, choose Options from the Tools menu.)

For example, if you type the following address in the Mailing Address box on the User Info tab, including the spaces before the ZIP Code

   John Doe
   One Microsoft Way
   Redmond, WA
       98052

the address will print and display in your document as:

   John Doe
   One Microsoft Way
   Redmond, WA
   98052

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c for Windows and Word 7.0 for Windows 95. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND

In the Return Address box on the Envelopes tab, add the character spacing before the address line before you choose the Add To Document or Print button.
