Spelling Files Are Installed Incorrectly w/ Workstation SetupLast reviewed: February 6, 1998Article ID: Q122228 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you perform a workstation installation of Word 6.0c for Windows, the spelling files (MSSPEL2.DLL and MSSP2_EN.LEX) are incorrectly installed to the local hard disk drive or the user's directory on the network server. This problem occurs even though the system administrator has specified that the shared applications be run from the server. This problem does not occur with any other proofing tools.
STATUSWe are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, remove the spelling files that were installed to the local directory or the user's directory on the server, and modify the WINWORD6.INI file to point to the correct server location for the spelling files.
MORE INFORMATIONWhen you install Word for Windows on the server, the spelling files are installed in the WINWORD\SHARED directory. When you perform a workstation installation, the spelling files should remain in the SHARED directory when the system administrator specifies that the shared applications be run from the network. The WINWORD6.INI file should be updated to point to the server location for the spelling files. If Windows is installed locally, the files are installed to the \WINDOWS\MSAPPS\PROOF directory. If the workstations are using a shared Windows directory, the files are placed in the MSAPPS directory for the user's directory on the network server.
