Text Pasted from Word Loses Formatting

Last reviewed: August 5, 1997

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows version 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c

SYMPTOMS

Text copied from Microsoft Word using the Clipboard and then pasted into applications that are not OLE 2.0 compatible may lose character and paragraph formatting. Some of the formatting options that do not appear in the destination application include word wrapping in paragraphs, paragraph indents, and all character-level formatting such as bold and italic.

CAUSE

Word copies text to the Clipboard in OLE 2.0 format. Applications that do not support the OLE function of Paste Special, Paste As Object, can only interpret the Clipboard contents as text.

STATUS

This functionality differs from Word 2.0 and is by design.
