The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 6.0, 6.0.1
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a
  • Microsoft Word 97 for Windows
  • Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

If you click a button on a toolbar that has been copied from another template, the following problems may occur.

Word 6.x, Word 7.x

You receive the following error message:

The macro named <macroname> does not exist.

Word 97, Word 98

The button does nothing and no message appears.

CAUSE

When you copy a toolbar from another template using the Organizer, Word does not copy the macros associated with the toolbar buttons. When you click a button in the new template, Word looks for the macro that goes with the button and can't find it.

WORKAROUND

Use the Organizer to copy the original template's macros.

The Organizer allows you to copy items from one template to another template, from one document to another document, or from one document to a template. The Organizer can copy styles, macros, toolbars, and AutoText.

To use the Organizer, in Word 6.x and 7.x, click Macro on the Tools menu, and then click Organizer. In Word 97 for Windows and Word 98 Macintosh Edition, point to Macro on the Tools menu, click Macros, and then click Organizer.

STATUS
