The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft SGML Author for Word, version 1.0
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to set up Microsoft SGML Author for Word on a system where SGML Author cannot find Word for Windows, you receive one of the following error messages:

Word for Windows 6.0 must be installed to continue Setup. Please exit
Setup now, install Word, and then set up SGML Author for Word.

   -or-

Word is not installed, install Word before running SGML Author Setup.

CAUSE

Word for Windows must be installed before SGML Author for Windows can be installed. If Word is installed on the computer, but SGML Author cannot find it, SGML Author will display this error message.

RESOLUTION

Install Word for Windows before running SGML Author setup. It may be fastest to run Word Setup and remove just the Word component and then reinstall the Word component. This will ensure that Word is listed properly.

MORE INFORMATION

Setup searches for Word using the following hierarchy:

  1. The WIN.INI Embedding section

  2. REG.DAT (Windows) or Registry (Windows NT)

  3. Local hard drive search

If Setup cannot find Word in any of these places, an error message is displayed.
