WD6X: Word Uses Orange Highlight Color When Blue/White Selected

Last reviewed: November 17, 1997
Article ID: Q127093
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.1a

SYMPTOMS

When you choose the "Blue Background, White Text" option, Word uses orange as the highlight color, instead of the highlight color you selected. (To locate this option, click Options on the Tools menu, and select the General tab.)

CAUSE

If your monitor supports 256 colors or more, this problem happens when the Color Control Panel is set below 256 colors.

If your monitor supports only 256 colors, this happens by design. Orange is the most visible highlight color available for a blue background.

RESOLUTION

If the selection is available, set the Color Control Panel to anything higher than 256 colors.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word version 6.0 for Macintosh. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
