ChDir Command May Fail on Novell NetworksLast reviewed: August 5, 1997Article ID: Q127780 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you use the ChDir WordBasic command, Word may return either of the following error messages:
Error 53: "File not Found" Error 102: "Command Failed"After the error is displayed, the ChDir command successfully changes the directory.
CAUSEThese errors may occur when you are using any version of the NetWare DOS Requester (VLM) earlier than v1.2. The problem does not occur when using NetX.
RESOLUTIONUpgrade the VLM to version 1.2. VLM version 1.2 can be found on CompuServe in the NovFiles forum and on FTP site:
ftp.novell.com/pub/netwire/novfileFor more information see WWW.NOVELL.COM/ServSupp/client/win95/file.htm. The necessary files are:
VLMUP3.EXE WINDR2.EXE NWDLL2.EXE NET33X.EXE NOTE: NET33X.EXE is only required if you are updating NetX workstations also. VLMFX.EXE NOTE: VLMFX.EXE may not exist. If it does exist, it will not be located with the other files, but in the /NOVLIB/05 section. This section is Read Only--you must specify the exact filename as shown above in order to obtain it.These files are self extracting, and you should extract each file into its own empty subdirectory. Each contains a readme file with instructions for updating, which should be followed explicitly. The actual file that contains the correction for the problem described at the beginning of this article is the NETWARE.DRV file. This file will be copied to the <Windows>\SYSTEM subdirectory during the update process. The Novell products discussed here are manufactured by vendors independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding these products' performance or reliability.
