Last reviewed: February 5, 1998
Article ID: Q127935
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0c

SYMPTOMS

When you are working in the header or footer window and you click once on the Help button on the Standard toolbar to examine text properties (that is use the "Reveal Formats" feature), the mouse pointer changes shape, but clicking on text does not reveal formatting information. (Pressing SHIFT+F1 to access "Reveal Formats" gives the same results.)

Note: The Help button "Reveal Formats" feature is available when the insertion point is anywhere else in the document.

STATUS

Microsoft is researching this problem, and we will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

This problem does not occur with Word 6.0 or 6.0a for Windows or with Word 6.0 or 6.0.1 for the Macintosh.

WORKAROUND

To examine formatting information, select the text and choose Font or Paragraph from the Format menu.
