The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Assistant, version 1.0, 1.0z, 2.0
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0a, 6.0c

SUMMARY

Word always opens your HTML documents in normal view, even when you close your documents in page layout view.

CAUSE

Internet Assistant does not retain or restore view information. Documents formatted for HTML are meant to be used as online documents, such as Web pages. The Web does not support a typical page layout. Opening HTML documents in normal view gives better performance while editing your documents in Word. To view your documents as they will appear online, you should open them in your Internet browser or InternetWorks.

RESOLUTION

After you open an HTML document, you can switch to page layout view. However, you should keep in mind that HTML documents are not composed of pages.
