The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSAfter converting a document to HTML that contains an inline image within hidden text (a comment element), the text immediately following the image loses its hidden formatting. This may also affect multiple paragraphs that have been formatted as hidden. In some cases, you will see the following stray characters at the end of the original commented text:
--> CAUSEWord is picking up the end of the image tag as the end of the comment element.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word, version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
WORKAROUNDSMethod 1: Open the HTML document as text only and type in the correct information for your inline image or comment elements. If you reopen this document in Word, you will need to re-edit it as text only.Method 2: Do not place an inline image within your comment elements.
