The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0

SYMPTOMS

If you modify any of the following styles

   Index Heading
   TOA Heading
   TOC 1
   TOC 2
   TOC 3
   TOC 4
   TOC 5
   TOC 6
   TOC 7
   TOC 8
   TOC 9

the changes you make are not reflected when you update the appropriate index, table of contents, or table of authorities.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you have created the index or table of contents or table of authorities by manually typing the field. If you created the index or table by inserting it from the menu, this problem does not occur.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Word for Windows 95, version 7.0a.

RESOLUTION

Upgrade to Word for Windows 95, version 7.0a.

To obtain Word for Windows 95 version 7.0a, call the Microsoft Order Desk at (800) 360-7561. If you are outside the United States, contact your local subsidiary. To locate your subsidiary, see the Microsoft World Wide Offices Web site at:

   http://www.microsoft.com/worldwide/default.htm

To temporarily work around this problem, select the index or table and press CTRL+SPACEBAR. This removes the direct formatting that Word has applied to those styles.
