Text Formatting Lost When Sending Text from Word to WordMail

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0

SYMPTOMS

If the Mail As Attachment option is not selected, text formatting is lost when you send formatted text to a mail message, even if you are using WordMail. To locate the Mail As Attachment option, click Options on the Tools menu, and click the General tab.

CAUSE

By design, Word offers two choices: to send mail as an attachment or to send it as plain text. If the Mail As Attachment option is not selected, any text sent to mail is sent in a text only format.

This functionality is designed to allow you to use Word to send messages to any mail system in a format that any system can read. Therefore, Word strips any formatting that may be misread by other mail systems and sends only text.
