"Cannot Find the Wrdbasic.hlp File" After Typical Installation

SYMPTOMS

When you press SHIFT+F1 and the DOWN ARROW key to access Word Basic help, you receive the following error message:

   Cannot find the Wrdbasic.hlp file. Do you want to try to find
   this file yourself?

CAUSE

This problem may occur for either of the following reasons:

  • You performed a Typical installation that did not install the Wrdbasic.hlp file.

    -or-

  • The file has been moved to a new location.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the appropriate method for your situation.

Method 1: If you performed a typical installation, run Setup again, and

          choose Add/Remove to install the Help component.

Method 2: If the Wrdbasic.hlp file has been installed but has been moved
          from the Winword folder (subdirectory), click Yes when you get
          the error message described in the "Symptoms" section of this
          article and locate the file.
