AutoCorrect Incorrectly Expands Words in a Table

Last reviewed: February 5, 1998
Article ID: Q142748
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c

SYMPTOMS

If you press TAB in a table cell when the insertion point is positioned after an AutoCorrect entry, the AutoCorrect entry will expand again.

For example, if you have defined "incl" as an AutoCorrect entry for "include" and you expand the AutoCorrect entry and then re-position the insertion point after the "l" in include, the AutoCorrect entry re-expands when you press the TAB key to move to the next table cell. As a result, you get "includeude."

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word versions 6.0, 6.0a, and 6.0c for Windows. This problem was corrected in Word for Windows 95, version 7.0.

RESOLUTION

Click Undo on the Edit menu, move the insertion point to a different location in the table cell, and then press TAB to move to the next cell.
