SYMPTOMS

All SEQ (Sequence) fields placed in a text box display the same result when you update them.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the Bullets And Numbering command on the Format menu to create the numbers. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the SEQ fields from the text box.

  2. Select the text to be numbered.

  3. On the Format menu, click Bullets And Numbering.

  4. In the Bullets And Numbering dialog box, click the Numbered tab, select the style of numbering you want, and then click OK.

NOTE: If you want the numbering to start at a certain number, or to be a different format, click Customize, and make the changes that you want.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Word listed at the beginning of this article. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
