SYMPTOMSWhen you start Word, you may receive a general protection (GP) fault error in WINWORD.EXE.
CAUSEThis problem occurs with some versions of the Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet 4 and 5 printer drivers. Errors will also occur if the printer driver becomes damaged or corrupted or if you are using a printer driver intended for a different operating system than the one you are actually using.
RESOLUTIONRemove and reinstall your printer driver. -or- Install an updated version of your printer driver.
MORE INFORMATIONA quick test to determine if the printer driver is the cause of the error is to set another printer as your default printer before you start Word. The following drivers are compatible with the LaserJet 4 and 5 series of printers:
