IA: Greater Than/Less Than Characters Not Converted CorrectlyLast reviewed: February 5, 1998Article ID: Q145628 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSInternet Assistant does not correctly convert the less than (<) and greater than (>) symbols when you use these characters inside a marquee. After you view the HTML source or save, close, and then reopen the document, Internet Assistant treats your marquee as unknown HTML markup. In Internet Assistant, your text is displayed outside of the marquee element. Your browser will not display the marquee because it will be ignored; it will be treated as invalid HTML.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word, version 2.0z. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
WORKAROUNDIn the Insert Marquee dialog box, type the character entities instead of the symbols. Internet Assistant will convert the characters correctly and the marquee element will be recognized by a browser that supports this element.
