WD: Custom Footnotes Disappear After Spell Check

SYMPTOMS

After using the spelling checker on a document, custom footnote references disappear.

CAUSE

This happens if you add a space between a word and the custom footnote mark while using the spelling checker on a document.

WORKAROUND

After the spelling checker is finished, click the down arrow next to the Undo button on the Standard toolbar. Select Spelling Change.

Add the space between the words and the reference marks before checking the spelling.

You can insert a custom footnote mark by clicking Footnote on the Insert menu and typing in the Custom Mark box.
