WD: Mac Equation Err: Server App, Source File Can't Be Found

SYMPTOMS

When you run Equation Editor from within Microsoft Word, you may receive the following error message:

   The server application, source file, or item cannot be found. Make sure
   the application is properly installed, and that it has not been deleted,
   moved, or renamed.

CAUSE

This error may occur if the Microsoft OLE Extension, the Microsoft Dialog Library, or the Microsoft OLE Library is located somewhere other than the location it was installed. Each of these files should be located in the Extensions folder inside the System Folder.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

1. Use the System Find File program to locate the OLE files, either as a group or one at a time.

   TIP: Type the Search string "microsoft ole" (without the quotation marks) to find all three files.

2. Open the folder System Folder:Extensions, and position the Extensions folder so that you can easily drag the files to it.

3. Drag the files to the Extensions folder.

   Ensure that all three files are moved to the correct folder.

4. Restart the Macintosh

5. Restart Word

6. In Word, click Object on the Insert menu and select Equation Editor.
