WD97: Wrong Feed Method Selected Using HP LaserJet 4 Driver

SYMPTOMS

The wrong feed method options are selected by default on the Printing Options tab in the Envelope Options dialog box. (To locate this dialog box, click Envelopes and Labels on the Tools menu.)

This problem does not occur if you run Word 97 on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.

CAUSE

You are using the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 4 printer driver version 3.78 which ships with Windows 95.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Word 97 for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do the following.

  1. On the Tools menu, click Envelopes and Labels.

  2. Click the Envelopes tab.

  3. Click the Options button.

  4. Click the Printing Option tab.

  5. In the Printing Options dialog box, select the left portrait icon (5th icon from the left), select the Face Up option, and clear the Clockwise Rotation option.
