SYMPTOMSWhen you view a document in Online Layout View, some paragraph border styles do not appear to be transparent.
CAUSEThis problem may occur when you apply a background color to a document that contains one of the following paragraph border styles:
Dotted line (third style) Dashed line (fourth style) Dot-dash line (fifth style) Dot-dot-dash line (sixth style) Zig-zag line (eighteenth style) Zig-zag line (nineteenth style) Striped line (twentieth style) WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, use a different border style to border the text. Do not use one of the styles listed in this article.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft Word 97 for Windows. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
MORE INFORMATIONIn Microsoft Word 97 for Windows you can view a document in Online Layout View. This new document view makes it easier to read the document on the screen. When you use the Online Layout View, text appears larger and wraps to fit the window and is not displayed the way it prints. Online Layout View allows you to format the background color of the document window to make it easier to present and read the document. The background color does not print with the document. The view also allows you to apply text borders. To apply a border style, use the following steps:
