Article ID: Q156665
The information in this article applies to:
  • Internet Assistant for the Macintosh, version 2.0
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 6.0.1, 6.0.1a

SYMPTOMS

When you edit column width in a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) document, Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word for the Macintosh unexpectedly quits without giving you an error message, or displays a Type 1 system error.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you do the following:

  1. Insert a table.
2. Select the table. 3. On the Table menu, click Cell Width and Spacing. 4. Clear the WYSIWYG Column Widths check box. 5. Use the scroll arrows to change the value in the Width of Column box.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem and adjust the column widths, use any of the following methods.

Method 1: Don't Use the Scroll Arrows to Change the Value

Don't use the scroll arrows to change the value in the Width of Column box. Follow these steps instead:

  1. Insert a table.

  2. Select the table.

  3. On the Table menu, click Cell Width and Spacing.

  4. Clear the WYSIWYG Column Widths check box.

  5. Type a new value in the Width of Column box.

Method 2. Change the Column Widths While WYSIWYG Column Widths is Selected

Method 3. Edit the Source HTML

To edit the source HTML:

  1. Click HTML Source on the View menu.

  2. Manually specify the values in the HTML source.

Method 4. Convert the Document Back to a Word Document

Convert the document back to a Word document using the Save As command on the File menu. Change the Column Widths in the Word document and then convert the document back to HTML.
