WD97: Placeholder Replaces Image After Adding Hyperlink

SYMPTOMS

If you Copy and Paste a graphic from one Web page to another, select the pasted image, and then insert a hyperlink, the image displays as a placeholder showing a circle, square, and triangle.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do the following:

  1. Open the original Web page containing the image you want.

  2. Right-click the image and click Save Picture As.

  3. Choose a location and type a name for the image and Click Save.

  4. Switch to the second document.

  5. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click From File.

  6. Select the image you saved in step 3 and click Insert.

  7. Select the image and click Hyperlink on the Insert menu.

  8. In the Link to File or URL box, type the URL and click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Word 97 for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
