SYMPTOMSWhen you open a Word 97 document into Word version 6.x or 7.x, you receive the following error message:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.When you click the Details button, you receive following error message:
Winword caused an invalid page fault in module <unknown> at 0000:<address>. CAUSEThis problem occurs with documents that contain a text box or AutoShape that holds text and uses the square wrapping style. NOTE: In Word 97, to locate the square wrapping style, select the text box or AutoShape, click Text Box on the Format menu, and then click the Wrapping tab.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, update to the most recent version of the Msword8.cnv or Msword832.cnv converter. The updated converters are available two ways:
To work around this problem, save the document from Word 97 using one of the following converters and then open the document in Word 6.0 or 7.0:
