WD97: Invalid Page Fault Typing Symbol in Equation Editor 3.0

SYMPTOMS

When you type or insert a symbol in Microsoft Equation Editor version 3.0, you may receive the following, or similar, error message:

   This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shutdown.

   If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

When you click Details, you receive the following error message:

   EQUATION caused an invalid page fault in module EQNEDT32.EXE at
   <address>.

CAUSE

The font specifications are missing from the Equation Editor style definitions.

RESOLUTION

To specify the fonts for the Equation Editor to use, follow these steps:

  1. On the Insert menu, click Object.

  2. On the Create New tab, under Object type, click Microsoft Equation 3.0 and then click OK.

  3. Do not type any characters. On the Style menu, click Define.

  4. Enter font names for all the styles. The defaults are listed in the following table.
