  • Microsoft Word 97 for Windows

SYMPTOMS

When you click Customize on the Tools menu, you cannot remove the Customize menu item by dragging the menu item to the Customize dialog box or to another toolbar.

CAUSE

By design, you are unable to perform this action because the Customize menu option is active.

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following methods as a workaround.

Method 1: Use the Customize Shortcut Menu

  1. Right-click any toolbar and click Customize on the shortcut menu.

The Customize dialog box must remain open; however, you might need to move it out of the way.

  2. On the Tools menu, right-click the Customize menu.

  3. To delete the Customize menu, click Delete on the shortcut menu.

Method 2: Reset the Tools Menu

  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize.

The Customize dialog box must remain open; however, you might need to move it out of the way.

  2. Right-click the Tools Menu, and click Reset on the shortcut menu.

  3. To delete the Customize menu, drag the Customize menu command from the Tools menu.
